BANTUGAN | Christmas season is a much-awaited celebration for most people, who look forward to the reunions, gifts, cards, and festivities it brings. However, this year's season comes with tough times, where many end up losing their jobs, and families starve due to the insufficient money to provide for their sustenance. There are also those who struggle to acquire the most basic of necessities, and may even spend Christmas without a roof over their heads. Even though most of us have our own difficulties and issues to face in the midst of the COVID crisis, we should have the disposition of helping out those who are less fortunate than us, for extending our hands to the needy is a corporal work of mercy. Generous gestures like donating food or basic necessities would suffice. In our enthusiasm to celebrate Christmas, let us not forget the real essence of the occasion, which is the time of giving and helping one another. The world is big and full of unfortunate people in suffering, but we must choose to make it a better place for them through acts of kindness and compassion, no matter how little they may seem.
